About the department


The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2008 with 30 intake and it was enhanced to 60 in the year 2010. It has a built-up area spread about 1000 sq.m making it the single largest department in the entire institute for an intake of 60 students. Discipline is the first thing we instil in our students. The department has 1 University ranks, 1 Gold medal, 1 ISTE Best student award and 2 Students projects secured State level Best project award by KSCST. The Department also supports students in sports and cultural activities. The Department has 1 Gold medal in National level Karate championship held at New Delhi and 1 Silver medal in International level Karate championship held in Japan.
The department has signed MoUs with 7 different companies of repute in and around Davanagere and is an institute member of INSTRUCT and ACCE, Davanagere chapter and professional societal membership ICI, ISTE and IE(I) to aid it’s students with Internship Practice which may later get converted into placement. What’s Civil Engineering without concern for nature..!! The department’s own expert team maintains and manages Water and Sewage treatment plants of the campus. Seventy percent of waste water coming out from different entities of the campus is treated and reused for gardening and thereby making the whole campus a “Zero Discharge Campus”. Did we tell you? Our campus is awarded with “Institute with best landscaping”, not once but twice – in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

The department has a repute of its own for imbibing ethics, humanity and discipline in its students apart from formal education. If you are looking yourself as a skilled and able Civil Engineer with necessary knowledge and attitude four years from now, then it is the Department of Civil Engineering at GM Institute of Technology you must join in. Every year few of our students get placed in–campus and most of them go on to establish themselves as entrepreneurs in different Civil Engineering fields. So far, more than 30 alumni of the Department are working in Government sector in different departments and capacities. Graduates can choose from industries like government and non-government sectors, PSU's, construction and management, software, consulting, aerospace, research etc.

Mission


1. To provide the technical knowledge and best practices in emerging technologies in the areas of Civil Engineering.
2. To impart industry ready design skills in infrastructure development for the betterment of the society.
3. To provide consultancy, promote research activities and develop entrepreneurs.

Programme Educational Objectives - PEO's


1. To prepare competent engineering professionals, able to apply their technical and managerial skills in planning, designing, construction, operation and maintenance of civil works.
2. To enhance engineering and managerial skills which will enable them to work as leaders and team members leading to become professional licensure entrepreneurs.
3. To create lifelong learning ambience and prepare them for pursuing higher education.

Program Specific Outcomes - PSO's


1. The Graduates will be able to excel in the core areas of civil engineering such as structural, transportation, environmental and water resource engineering.
2. The Graduates will be able to manage natural resources and provide sustainable solutions to the Civil Engineering Problems.
